Wifi or 3g?
This should be a great tablet, with a screen only 2 inches smaller than a 10.1 but a much greater portability.
The pen is what will appeal to many businessmen, including me.
We know that the 3g is not coming to the USA, at least initially (if/when it will come, it will probably be subsidized by a carrier and cost even more...) so we are looking at either :
A wifi version ($300 - 450 I presume, also depending on memory)
An imported 3g version, which on average will be $100 - 150 more.
The 3g would work on ATT and Tmobile (full Internet speed just in the repharmed markets)
Now, which one would you go for?
I personally don't plan on using this as a phone, although I would love the capability, especially using a Bluetooth piece. I would also like not to depend solely on wifi or tethering, I would take my regular Tmobile sim card off the phone for a few days or business hours amd switch it back at night.
At the same time, is this worth $150 more?
Thoughts? Wifi or 3g?
If 3g, what's your use?

Re: Wifi or 3g?
I'm not sure what carriers in Canada will be providing 3G for it so I can't comment on that yet. However, I feel like I'd more than likely just go with the Wifi version. Why?
- I am a cheap person wh doesn't want to spend more than I have to
- I don't plan on using the cell phone part of it
- I have my Galaxy S2 running with data
As cool as it would be to have 3G on the go on a tablet, as long as I'm a student desperate for money for school, I'll just be getting the Wifi version. - 03-02-2013, 08:31 AM #3

Re: Wifi or 3g?
I thought Samsung stated that one carrier in the US would bring it with LTE. I'll most likely go wifi since I can tether to my phone. I'm on AT&T, but my wife is on Verizon so if it came to Verizon with LTE, then I might spring for it because every where I went I could hedge my bets for a data connection by being on both networks.

Re: Wifi or 3g?
Tmobile acquired part of ATTs frequencies (1900) and they are in the process of repharming their network.. Meaning even iPhones now work on Tmobile 4g (not edge) in some cities.
It depends where you live, but eventually it will be nation wide.

Re: Wifi or 3g?
The waiting part is where you got me. No, I don't want to wait. Heck, Verizon is just now getting the Note 10.1 and that is going on a year now. I will do wifi just so I can get it day one. Even with the LTE, I didn't want to use it as a phone, I just wanted the data with tethering capability. But it comes down to me not being able to wait. I have been holding out on a Note because I wanted to see what the Windows tablets with digitizers came out like. I think I need to wait on those for another generation or two. This seems like the perfect device for me to have the S-Pen and the better portability. I like everyone else wishes the resolution could be better, but it isn't going to stop me from buying one.

Re: Wifi or 3g?
That's interesting. How can I know when and where the 1900 MHz band is activated? I live in Los Angeles and have an international Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile which has the 1900MHz band but no 1700Mhz band so only getting Edge speeds. Can I find out if/when it's due to happen in LA anytime soon?

Re: Wifi or 3g?
I am in your same boat, probably can't wait. I was going to decide between the new note 2 (3) as a single device instead of phone and tablet.. But that comes out in August, it will be priced higher, and honestly I love my Nexus 4.
So I will end up using 2 devices, which is fine as the Note 8.0 is business oriented...
On top of that the new Note 8.0 showed up in black today and it looks amazing.... Can't wait!

Re: Wifi or 3g?
Definitely wifi. It will spend the vast percentage of time at home. The few times I take it for travel, I'll prefer to just tether it to the 20Mbps LTE connection my phone gets.

I'm highly considering the 3G version. Pop my T-Mobile UK SIM in and off I go with unlimited everything
