I do the same all the time. It really depends on screen orientation. I use mine mostly in landscape and try to make active habit of having the home button on the right when I start using it. This make the back button higher up on the screen than the keyboRd would be and right above thumb level. Ive found this works best for me.

Me too and very annoyed about it. I usd papyrus to write because it has an option to disable back button, so I am thinking there is an app to disable it
rooting might allow disable buttons
turning it upside down also helps but is lame.

I'm going to see if I can disable the hardware buttons and add on screen buttons soon. If so I'll make a how to thread.

Sadly, I couldn't manage to figure out how to disable the keys. I did get onscreen home/back etc buttons working, however that's of no use unless we can disable the capacitive hardware keys.

I copied this from XDA Developers web site but you must be rooted:

What you will need:
Root
Root explorer or similar program
and Be Careful

First:
Open your root explorer or similar app
navigate to system>usr>keylayout

Second:
Make backup of sec_touchscreen.kl

Third
This step has been, found to be not needed. Skip to step 4!

Fourth:
Open sec_touchscreen.kl

find line:
key 158 BACK WAKE_DROPPED

and place a # in front of it like:
# key 158 BACK WAKE_DROPPED

then find line:
key 139 BACK WAKE_DROPPED

and place a # in front of it like:
# key 139 BACK WAKE_DROPPED

Save your changes and close the file

reboot your tablet, and you are finished.

Your capacitive buttons will not respond to your fingers, but retain functionality with the s-pen.

ENJOY!

If you want to do this, you can navigate to /system/ and edit build.prop to put on screen keys.

qemu.hw.mainkeys=0

Put that line exactly at the end of the build.prop and save/reboot.

Make sure you are either using Root Explorer, which saves a .bak automaticly, or you first copy and backup the original build.prop.
