What do you mean by that? There are thousands of ways for sending messages with an android tablet. But if you mean specifically sending text messages (sms), then with the 3g version (gt n5100) you can do that as well.
...because if you are specifically referring to iMessage than no as iMessage is iOS specific; however as the previous poster said there are numerous was to send/receive text messages on an Android tablet.
It really all depends on who you want to interact with and how.
If you're on Verizon, there is a Verizon messaging app that allows you to send sms from phone and wifi tablet and they sync so you can txt from phone and reply from tablet
