Re: Release date
I'm an Apple Mac user (Graphic Designer for over 20 years so it's kind of self explanatory) and the big difference is, Apple leaves all the hype and speculation to do the "early hype" letting people imagine whatever they want from leaks and such and doesn't announce ANYTHING until they have it ready. This way no one can accuse them of missing specs or ship dates. Until they have locked in dates of arrival, they don't even announce the existence of a product.
ALL the other electronics manufacturers feel they have to generate as much hype as the can to compete and they have SO many things going on at one time, they don't release firm dates because a lot of the time they release info to cut off rumors or to stall the market from their competitors so people will hopefully hold out for theirs. By saying "Q1" they give themselves a time frame like your cable repair guy, wide enough even a blind man with a crossbow could hit. They usually wait until whatever product is closest to the one they want to release starts to stagnate or stall, in this case the 10.1 2014, and then announce it's "new and improved" version to try and excite the market again and keep people from going to competitors.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the price is going to be a lot higher than we expect. The 4G ones will probably be $999 or $949 with the others being in the $800-$900 range.
