Hi smartphone noobie here,
How can I tell if my second-hand S2 is rooted?
Is there any advantage to rooting? (better battery life etc)
is black google a good idea?
Hope this is the right place for these questions....

Welcome to the forums.
You can download an app called root check. That should determine if you have root access or not.
Root access can allow you to make changes to your device, like over or under clocking, but caution does need to be used. Some of the changes that can be made can damage your device.
I had to Google black Google and the main thing I saw was a way to make Google search a dark screen, is that what you are referring to?

Hi, thanks for the response. I've downloaded root check and it tells me root access is not available:( su available:no, BusyBox available:no), so I'll take that as a No then....You're right about black google, I was told that it's a way of making the battery last a lot longer - as well as reducing eye strain! I'm not planning to use the phone for anything 'fancy' so I guess improving the battery life is all I really want to do. Is it worth the risk?
