Interesting article about RIM, BlackBerry and their current CEO Thorsten Heins. Says he's currently using the SGS III alongside his BlackBerry for learning about other platforms.

He is a CEO, do you think he really decided "wow i want a whizbang phone to play with instead of this blackberry trash"? If it were actually a pissing match like everyone thinks, he could just pay a guy to follow him with a 30" flatscreen and a battery pack, and be like "that's my phone, I'm CEO you peasant!"

He's a smart CEO, and my respect for him just grew. I have been fairly ambivalent towards him, but I am beginning to like the forthrightness.

I hope the chiefs of Samsung, HTC etc do the same.

I'm surprised by this, this is what you should do. I tried windows phone, ipad, android phones and tablets, ill get the windows tablet, I had the ipod touch (basically same thing as iphone/ipad). Try all devices. Get the best features. Get newer, better ideas.

It's a smart move(Know your competition). Other CEO's do this. Ford's CEO drives a variety of competitive cars.
Unfortunately for RIM its RIP.

This has been done MANY time over if you all remember..... The WOZ A.K.A Steve Wozniak would always go out and get the latest and greatest android phone too.... even though he is not a CEO it is a good way to understand how the competition..

Seems like a good approach by a CEO. As a customer I wish I had the money to play around with iPhone and Windows phone just to get a better sense of them. But if I had enough disposable income I would definitely have multiple devices on multiple platforms just to satiate my curiosity. As a CEO, I think it is a good idea to see where your competitors have the edge.

It's no different than @crackberrykevin doing his Mobile Nations world Tour. Many people that lead tech companies use the competition to understand it better to either improve on what is being done (Apple) or innovate something new (Google) or differentiate them self from the competition (Microsoft / RIM)

I respectfully disagree. It still works very well for what I do daily, email, text, talk. It's all a matter of perspective, and what is important to the user.

Wow that was a great interview. He made a lot of good points. I think he is the right person in charge to give RIM a chance.

He's right that they lost a lot of share due to the fact they really had no legitimate touchscreen device as well as a proper os to go along with it.

I'm hoping RIM survives as competition is good.

Not quite dead.

Personally I see a small surge of loyalists going back to BB once OS10 comes out.

Plus their PlayBook beats the hell out of any Galaxy Tablet I've owned. Less apps but everything on that device makes sense.

Good to see he is trying out something else to see what it is like for the consumer.

As a previous iPhone user, let's just be honest here. He was just as intrigued by the Galaxy SIII as the rest of us. I own more Apple products than most but when a better phone comes around, I'm not going to think twice about switching! LOL, sure he's probably doing the right thing by taking the competition out for a test drive, but at this point RIM as we know it is done.

Yeh fair enough.. ofcourse it works but the phone is too much on the business


side.. thats why i switched cus i wanted a mix..
