How to assign a specific tone to an incoming text?

Hi all, I know how to assign a ringtone to different people's incoming phone calls, but can I do the same with their incoming text messages? Currently I have the same notification for every text I receive. I have the galaxy S3. Thanks in advance. Jude

Welcome to the forums!

Open the Contacts app, select the contact that you want to assign a special tone to, select the Pencil icon to edit the contact, scroll down to 'Message alert' and change it from Default to whatever tone you prefer, then select the Save button.

Sweet!!! thanks! That did it... Half of my contacts are on the sim card, and the other half are google contacts. Only works with the google people. But very easy to switch them over to google. So Thanks again!
