Talking *jaw drops* Can haz S3 now please?

Oh Good lord. While I know that benchmarks are FAR from then end all be all method of telling a systems performance. But still. All the reviews I've been seeing have only been on the quad core model. And they only give the overall score. I finally ran across a pretty good review of the system:

    [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bq3E_RfzxE[/YT]

That finally gives a breakdown of each score. For the heck of it I compared it to my EVO 4G.

    Test\ EVO 4G \ Galaxy S3
    CPU: 1900 \ 8201
    Memory: 1103 \ 7119
    I/O: 670 \ 6955
    2D: 303 \ 1014
    3D: 539 \ 2207

In short, this is what a current phone looks like compared to a 2 year old one. I think we are well past kicking its **** into vaporizing the thing with a Hadouken type territory at this point. x_x

So in short. *grabby hands: runs around the room in circles* Verizon gimmegimmegimmegimmegimmegimme!!!

All joking aside. The pace of hardware advancement for phone is actually rather stunning. I was around for the 286, 386, 486, Pentium evolution and while that was impressive the overall progress in mobile tech is nothing short of jaw dropping.

Benchmarks are great, but not the whole story. I have an Evo 4G and have used the One X. With custom ROMs on my Evo, its nearly as fluid and responsive in day to day tasks. Obviously it won't run the 3d games, play flash video etc like a new phone, but the things we do everyday the difference is a lot closer.

See and I've used dozens upon dozens of ROMs and I can't get it to be fluid. Granted I also beat the crap out of this thing with what I do. More often then not I have SetCPU, Locale monitoring and tweaking things as the power levels drop. I have Google music playing while I'm working on a document and Google Voice txting back and forth, while tweetdeck and several RSS feed aggregators all slapping around the system. I've OCed the processor, I've used multiple OS tweaks, but still the system likes to get sluggish.
Some of my friends tell me I'm treating my phone like a laptop and I need to throttle back on some of what I do. *shrugs* I've always pushed tech to the edge of what it can do. Even back when I got a Compaq iPaq 3600 in 2001.
I made that sucker do stuff that only now people are taking for granted on their devices.

I think part of the problem comes down to the I/O of the device. It just can't keep up with the paging that goes on between the MicroSD card and the system.

Lol the running around with grabby hands visual cracked me up. It really is astonishing how fast mobile tech is progressing. I just got an s2 coming from a blackberry and this thing is blowing my mind. The tech journalists say the S3 makes the s2 look like a dinosaur.

I have watched this video 3 times already, loved how smooth it runs, just like the Exynos version! I have been going back to mobile syrup waiting for the full review, but nothing yet as of now...hopefully he will have it up soon.

Lol this is what I did every day before the S3 was announced, back when the phone was hyped to be the greatest technological advancement in history haha

Actually, benchmarks are the end all, be all...until a new set of standards, conditions, etc., are implemented. All of these apps that test our phones performance provide a score, not a benchmark. Most corporations strive to define and maintain benchmarks to keep the scores of key metrics optimized. Google "benchmark"...it's grossly misused in the Android world.

Hence the reason I treat benchmarks as only one metric. Its been a well know tactic with Intel, AMD, Nvidia, ATI to tweak their hardware to perform better on certain benchmark apps. Intel was really bad about this in the Pentium 4 days. That said some of the scores you can't fake.

This is cool, but I agree that what actually matters is day to day performance, which yes, even an EVO 4G can excel at with the right ROM.

This is all a moot point anyway. We're on the verge of a huge performance jump with the dawn of A15 procs coming out. Very soon, the Exynos 4412 and the even the Snapdragon S4 are going to get destroyed. It'll be a different ballgame by year's end. Can't wait for the Exynos 5250 in the next Nexus (crossing fingers haha)

Did anyone catch the processor melting butter test?? Had an the S4 processor device up against 3 "other", competitors and placed butter on them. See who runs coool
