Go into settings-development and make sure USB debugging is checked. Should recognize it. If in external se card, a micro se card USB adapter will work if still having the issue.

Go download Android File Transfer (it's an app for Mac), that should help.

Not a problem about rooting, it is not for everyone. Android file transfer will let you into the phone memory and the external sd card.

Ok, unplug the phone and re plug it. Drop down the notification bar and select the camera option box and re open the android transfer app. Now it should work.

Re: S3 isn't recognized on macbook pro help!

Hi guys,

I have some related problems with my Macbook pro and my new S3.

When I connect these two devices, my Macbook says theres no android unit detected.

And I have tried all the above, incl. checking/unchecking the debugging-thing, and have the phone in both en a MTP and PTP mode. But, nothing helps, still no detection.

Any help?

Same here, I've had problems since the lastest update that happened Sept. 20th. I can't send or retrieve any emails, and the Verizon rep said we were going to have to wipe the phone clean and start over!
So now I encountered this same problem trying to get my photo's on to my MacBook Pro I'll keep checking back to see if anyone has an answer!!! I would like to resolve this w/o wiping my phone clean. In the meantime, I'm using "dropbox" to get my most favorite pic's off.. but still! There HAS to be an easier way! I'm one hour into this process!

As Ian B stated previously,

"Ok, unplug the phone and re plug it. Drop down the notification bar and select the camera option box and re open the android transfer app. Now it should work."

Apparently Samsung has removed the Mass Storage Mode on the GS3. My Win 7 machine requires that I either use this method, or uninstall the Samsung driver in Devices and then plug back in bevcause of some Missing Hardware ID error message. I just use it as a camera.

Re: S3 isn't recognized on macbook pro help!

I tried the tips in this thread to no avail,... I ended up using dropbox for the main ones I didn't want to lose, then tried the sd card with USB adapter, and finally the "image capture" woke up on my mac and accepted the pictures!

Re: S3 isn't recognized on macbook pro help!

Kies has been known to work. I had same problems as others with AFT. Tried iSyncr today and that worked for iTunes synching but requires uninstalling Kies otherwise iSyncr can't detect phone. I'll probably reinstall Kies and AirSynch as they are options that I have found to work. I've seen some other good suggestions in the forums recently that require using NFS shares on your home network - copy photos from phone to NFS and then to Mac from there. May need a helper app, hope others can provide those details. I agree with the overall sentiment that getting photos, video, and music shouldn't require so much dorking around. Having come from an iPhone before the S3, and Droid2 and BlackBerry (the latter two in a Windows environment); all were essentially painless and worked out of the box. Looking forward to JellyBean in hopes that improves the situation with MTP or similar features.
