Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
My GS3 (and my wifes' Galaxy Note) both work automatically with her 2011 Ford Fusion 'Sync' BT, and our 2009 Dodge truck 'UConnect' BT, thankfully, so it sounds.
As well, we never had a single connectivity prob---over the last 3 years---with our iPhones.
But my first Android phone, an AT&T Skyrocket (that I purchased three weeks ago; kept for 10 days, and then traded/swapped-out for the GS3), did have a problem, possibly. I'm not really sure. It wasn't with initial auto connectivity though, but rather with the party on the other line not being able to hear me once they had answered the call, after I had pressed a few keypad 'option' numbers; (it was a Best Buy store). So, actually, I'm not really sure if it was a GS3/Bluetooth prob, or maybe just the stores' phone system.
I suspected, at the time, that it was a GS3/BT prob, so I returned/swapped-out the Skyrocket the next day for the GS3.
Hope everyone with a BT connect prob gets it sorted, and soon, as that would be a hassle for sure. One that would definitely cause me to return the GS3, which in fact, I'm currently thinking of doing due to other reasons.Last edited by fr3GStoGS3; 10-23-2012 at 06:37 PM.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
Mine has improved a lot. I don't know if it was the last update Verizon pushed out or the one prior. It's not perfect but probably 85-90% of the time it hooks right up. The times that I tend to have problems is when I am in and out of the car quickly.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
FWIW, I have a VZW GSIII and it has connected without an issue to my '09 Audi A4 since I got it.
I do tend to just leave BT on my phone turned on all the time.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I am able to connect my Samsung S3 BT with my car Acura TL 2012 but the phone books is not. It shows only 2 contacts and sometime is 3 ( my contacts is ~ 120 ).
I try to unpair ( delete form the car ) and re-pair several times but it still not work. After I re-pair it and then connect, it asks me to allow transfer contact: I check mark "do not ask again, then O.K ", it connects but the phone books got problem above.
It has only the option: cancel or O.K after I check mark " do not ask again ". Again, if I press O.K, it connects but problem with phone book. If I press cancel it won't connect.
Pls. helpLast edited by James Ma; 11-14-2012 at 06:38 PM.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I found a work around for my issue:
Configuration:
2006 BMW 535xi - Phone Audio
New Potato Tunelink - Media Streaming
1. Delete S3 profile from car
2. Unpair Car from phone
3. Unpair Tunelink from phone
4. Power off phone
5. Pair phone and car
6. When asked to allow access to phone book, check the box to not ask again and press "cancel"
7. Pair Tunelink
The issues seems to be with copying of the phone book to the car.
I only dial from the phone, so not having the phone book on the car is not an issue
Hope this helps others. - 11-29-2012, 02:05 AM #111
Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I have both of these problems as well. My old HTC Evo 4G (Sprint) autoconnects with my GLI equipped with a Gateway Pro everytime. My new S3 not so much (actually not ever). I have to select the dension device on the phone and then it connects. When it is done syncing I only have about 1/3 of my contacts on the car's phonebook. Maybe some of the contacts are Google and some are phone contacts and that's the difference. I'm not sure how to tell which is which however. My Evo drops a complete copy of my contacts onto the car (even ones with email only info).

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
When in contacts, hit the menu button and choose "contacts to display" and then you choose "phone" and see exactly which contacts are saved to your phone rather than Google.
My phone connects everytime without flaw to my 2012 Toyota Tacoma, inc. streaming BT audio. To be honest, I've never even checked the phonebook, however -- I just always say, "dial by number" then speak the number...just seems easier to me, but I have a photographic memory and realize not everyone knows the numbers of their contacts off the top of their heads as I do. - 11-29-2012, 10:18 AM #113
Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
Well, I've noticed another glitch —
If I turn the GS3's BT on before entering our 2009 Dodge Ram w/ BT UConnect . . . everything always works great; no phone-book/contacts problems; no problems whatsoever.
If I don't turn the GS3's BT on until after I enter the vehicle . . .when I try to voice-command a call, I get something like: 'No phone detected'.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I have the same issue. I live in the UK and have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (4g model) - GT-19305 and a VW Phaeton 2008 model. Previously I had an iPhone 3gs and had no issues at all pairing the bluetooth. The second I got within range the bluetooth connected even when I was on a call on the phone the VW system would take over and the call would continue.
Since I got the Samsung the pairing was a little difficult-
2 reasons - 1 the massage with a tick box "only visible to paired devices" is ambiguous because it is not a tickbox answer but a toggle to "visible to all nearby Bluetooth" and secondly when the car asked to download the phone book the question on the phone did no appear on the home-screen.
Anyway successfully paired and downloaded the phone book.
However every time I go out of range of the bluetooth and then come back to the car the connection is lost and needs to be re-connected. The car phone menu has a connect option which I have to choose every time I get in the car. I have checked with VW and they say there is no option to automatically connect but where a device is paired it should automatically connect (and as I said the iPhone did).
As well as checking out this forum I found an app called - Bluetooth Auto Connect by Jakub Klos - which is free and I downloaded it. Sadly it has made no difference at all.
Should anyone find a definitive solution to this I'd be most grateful as remembering to switch the car system to phone and pressing connect every time I get in the car is a pain.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I tried the Autoconnect app and it has resulted in a greater than 50% autoconnect (2 out of 3 times since installed) but isn't perfect. You do need to go into the app and select the Call Audio tick box for the car hands free device. I can connect them when the AutoConnect doesn't work from either the car menu (connect to phone) or the phone (tap on the bt device), which seems a little odd as well as they both must see each other but can't get their **** on the same page. Based on this forum I would bet that it is the phones fault and probably requires a fw update to truly fix it.
On the phonebook issue, I will look into that tonight if I get time and see if I can perceive the difference between what contacts show up on the car's phonebook and those that don't. My Evo had a ton of contacts (phone + google) and I think all of them showed up on the car's phonebook. So maybe this is another issue with the GS3.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
i've made an interesting observation. I found a way to make mine connect every time. But it is not the "perfect" scenario.
I have the Go Groove Flex Smart**. It is a bluetooth cigarette lighter powered bluetooth receiver that then re-transmits the signal via FM signal to your car stereo.
I have been using this product for about 5 months without problems. My ipod touch, daughter's iphone, and my ipad, all sync instantly when brought into the car.
For the first day with my Note 2 it did too. But then i started having problems like the ones described above.
It would not auto connect like the ipod did, ever, but at least it would connect and work. Then the other day it would make the noise indicating that it connected and the light on the flex smart indicated it was connected. The note 2 also said it was connected, but no music.....
I played with it for about 20 minutes, got it to connect again, i don't know how, and went about my business.
Today it did it again. Indicated it was connected, but no music.
I played with it for some time before i discovered that if i go into the Bluetooth settings page.. where it shows paired devices... then i open up the options.. .the circle on the right... there were boxes for music audio and calls audio. If i unchecked the calls audio, the music plays fine. and it connects every time!
Like i said, this is not a perfect solution, because i do not have use of the hands free feature of the Flex. But i get my music, which is what was important to me. I am going to continue to look for a "perfect" solution, but for now, this will do.
i hope this helps someone..
** P.S. here is a link for the Flex.
I do not work for them, nor get anything for plugging it, but if you do not have bluetooth in your car and you like to listen to music and have a hands free device [except on the samsung
] check it out. The thing is THAT GOOD. Don't be turned off by the FM Transmitter part either, it is super clear. Seriously. Read the reviews on the thing.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
-Delete all existing bluetooth paired devices from your android phone as well as on the car Head unit.
-Turn bluetooth "on", on your anroid phone. From your head unit in your car, try to search for your phone. Once you found your phone, try to pair.
If pair is successful, search through the menu settings on you cars head unit for "bluetooth auto connect". Turn this "on".
To test: Turn your ignition key off for 10second, then on again. Your head unit should auto connect to your phone now.
Hope that helps, enjoy. - 12-07-2012, 08:46 AM #119
Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I've been having similar problems on my Subaru installed Parrot CK3000 Bluetooth hands free kit. I worked fine on my Omnia 2 and paired just fine on my Galaxy note 2 but wont connect. One thing I noticed is that some of my Paired Bluetooth devices have profiles attached to them, for instance my laptop shows "Call Audio" and "Media Audio", but the hands free kit does not have any profiles attached to it? My question is should it? The CK3000 also supports address book integration but I never saw anything when I paired the 2 devices - I only had to put the "1234" password in on the phone. I wonder if its bugging out somewhere along the line and doesn't have the profile properly set. I would be grateful if other users could check this on their working and non-working phones and reply.

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I have a 2010 Prius also. My HTC Inc 2 connected just fine, automatically on BT. Switched between phone calls and audio player. It would work ok with USB connection too. Though it failed for audio books, which is what I like to listen to while I commute. So I used BT exclusively.
I just got a Samsung Galaxy S3, Verizion version and it will not play audio and it will not connect by USB as audio. BT phone connection seems to be fine. But I a frustrated with the BT audio connection. - 01-03-2013, 09:14 PM #121
Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I had all sorts of problems with Note 2 and VW bluetooth (and other bluetooth devices). Errors on phonebook downlaods and pairing etc.........
THE SOLUTON:
1. unpair/remove radio from car and car from radio so both devices "haven't seen each other before"
2. Pair as per normal BUT when a window pops on your phone asking for permission to access phonebook seloct "OK" BUT also very importantly switch/select tick box option that asks "do not ask me again".............this is CRITICAL because if you leave it unchecked, the stupid phone continues to seek permission (unknown to you) every time you get in the car and turn on the igniton!!
Worked for me perfectly! I assume this will work for any car and it is not peculiar to VW or any particular make. - 01-12-2013, 11:22 AM #122

Re: S3 Bluetooth Does NOT Auto Connect to Car
I can auto connect to my 2007 Altima system, but my brand new Sprint S3 is useless becaue of the noise and garbled connection. I had the same issue with an HTC Mogul before I upgraded to the Touch Pro II. The S3 brings back the issue.
