Eye flash in notification area when on a call

Sometimes when I'm on a call I notice an "eye" flashing in the notification area. Kind of creepy, like I'm being watched. Has anyone seen this or know what this is?

The eye symbol is "Smart Stay"... it means the phone is checking to see if you are looking at it.

Just to add: it will flash the eyes icon 10 seconds before the screen is going to turn off. If the front camera detects your eyes looking at the screen, it will reset the screen timeout. If not, it will check again 10 seconds later and if you're still not looking at it, the screen turns off.

From any Home screen, press the Menu button, select Settings -> Display -> scroll down to the Features section and uncheck "Smart stay".
