Is free wifi tethering possible on GS3 with root?
If you root your GS3 and run vanilla ICS or JB, will you be able to use your phone as a wifi hotspot? If you are on AT&T, is there anything you can do to prevent the carrier from knowing you are using the tethering feature without actually paying it? $20 for tethering is ridiculous in my opinion. I'd like to do whatever I want with my 2GB of monthly data.

I'm VZW but FoxFi works perfectly on mine. I'm not rooted.

Any chance carriers will try to crack down on FoxFi?

Re: Is free wifi tethering possible on GS3 with root?
It will probably take them a bit longer to detect with the new family data plans going into effect. That said, I used to use my jailbroken iphone to tether my ipad for a year. At&t never detected it. I think it's bs anyway, preventing you from tethering. If i pay for data, I'll use it as I see fit. If I go over my data allowance then fine, hit me up. US carriers should all be sued so they act more like European carriers.

Re: Is free wifi tethering possible on GS3 with root?
I dont know, my Tablet plan is with Telstra which are expensive but they are the only ones with decent coverage in the pokey town I live in and I pay $50 a month for 8GB. There are plans a fair bit cheaper but its only consistently useable in the cities.
My phone I pay $59 a month for $700 credit, free txts in ozz, free Virgin to Virgin calls and txts and 3gb of data. Most of the credit I use on international calls.
All the above 3g Telstra has 4g but its a different frequency to what you guys run, Apple got smacked on the knuckles with Ipad 3 claiming it was 4g when it wouldn't work on Telstras network

Re: Is free wifi tethering possible on GS3 with root?
the UK carriers are gettin stricter. i use 3 network and they block all torrent sites and throttle you if they detect tethering or very heavy use between 3pm-midnight
