My S3 keeps disconnecting randomly from the Wifi connection. There is nothing wrong with the wifi signal because it doesn't do it on any other device. Anyone else had this problem and do you know how to solve it?

Disable WiFi Power Save Mode:
Dial *#0011#
Hit menu key
Select WiFi
Middle of display is button for WPSM, If green press to disable.
It will cycle WiFi to enable.
Enjoy your WiFi

This needs to be stickied, if it isn't already.

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

The wifi fix I quoted needs to be stickied---made a fixed thread at the top of this forum section for people with wifi problems. Every S3 owner knows it by heart now but the new owners keep asking the same question/posting they have wifi problems, hence it needs stickied so they can find it.;) Now if you've done the fix and it still keeps happening I hope you are new and still within return policy range. You more than likely have a bad phone like I did, get a new one.

Oh right I got you. I only been using this forum on my phone really so i don't believe I see the topics in the same way.

I've had this phone since July now, but its only started happening recently. It would be a manufacturer failure though, so it would be covered under the warranty.

I just turned mine off since it said on for WiFi power save. Just curious... This may be a newb question but what does that feature even do?

Yes that's right but you may have to send it in to a Samsung center depending on your carrier. I'm in the States here with AT&T so I only had 30 days to exchange then my only option was the Samsung general warranty and sending it off. Luckily I got a replacement under the 30 days.

If you are having wifi issues that's the main culprit beyond you getting a bad phone like I did. It cycles the wifi and in affected phones turning it off stops the cycling. TBH it wasn't a really bad issue till the "update" carriers here rolled out so it may be software related.

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

i have the same issue maybe worse i go to my office and wifi works perfect i have airport express in my office. i come home and i have airport express and airport extremes and guess what connections shuts off. i already had 1 new phone exchanged. i am so pissed off i have power savings to off and all hints used i have never had so many issues with a phone in my life i am so glad my iphone is my main phone because this is not a good phone to many issues and samsung has yet to address it apple fixes problems much faster.

Wifi power saving off through the service menu or power saving off through the Settings menu? Different settings altogether if not. It's a software issue unless you got another bad phone. My new one only needs it turned off every now and then and not very often. I had an iPhone too once. That being said, I'd much rather have a wifi malfunctioning GS3 than a perfectly functioning iPhone any day tbh. Even when my wifi totally crapped out mobile data worked fine. I hated that 4S, I really did. I don't think it's much Samsung as it is carriers for a possible fix being rolled out, JB is said to fix a lot of issues with the GS3. That's on the carriers pushing it out since they already have the update I've read.

Apple's received another "helpful" patent too, one to totally disable cameras and recording during events. Meaning authorities or the like can just send a signal and cut capability from your phone at will during a protest, concert, any public gathering where it could be useful or prove beneficial/harmful to have that capability. I'm so glad I dropped that steaming chud and control-freak corporation and tasted sweet Android freedom. Sometimes I think they've possibly re-animated the Nazi SS and replaced the Apple staff in Cupertino. Just sayin. ;)

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

What do you mean by that? I've noticed it has still been disconnecting, more so now than before.

Sorry, I haven't been back in a while. But this solved my WiFi disconnection problems when my phone was 3" from the router at work and 3' from my router at home. I always caught it in 4G when I woke it up. After I got this tip from XDA, my problems went away. However, after the TMo update, this feature defaults to ON after a reboot. Sad Panda. :(

Those steps didn't do anything. I've done a soft reset, turned wifi off, you name it i've done it. I'll connect if i do a restart but then i get disconnected again.

I'm also unable to connect to other wifis, not just home.

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

hi there, complete newbie s3 user here so please be patient with me.. i got my s3 last week set it up and all was fine.. always had crapberrys so android completely new to me.. my wi fi was working perfectly untill i did an update that popped up. now i cant connect at all.. my mac is connected but when tring to to connect the phone it says obtaining ip address, then network disable poor connection.. but the signal is fine on other devices.. any help would be much appreciated. thanks for you time..

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

As a first step, I would suggest deleting the WiFi account you set up previously on your phone and recreate it. See if that helps.

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

Hector - you don't say what "update that popped up" you're referring to. If it was an update from ICS to Jelly Bean then you probably want to do a Factory Reset.
WiFi is pretty stable on this phone, so if it was working fine and then suddenly started having problems after the update, the Factory Reset will be your best bet.
As the previous poster mentioned, deleting the WiFi connection and recreating it may help. You could even try setting the router to Open (ie no security) and see what happens, although you don't want to leave the router configured that way.

Perhaps that was a typo on your part, but it's *#0011#

And that code doesn't work on all Samsung Galaxy S IIIs.

Finally, I don't even recognize what a "Titanium S5" is - are you even in the correct forum?

Re: Wifi disconnecting.

Johns53ton,
You're going to have to give us a little more information to go on:
- what model/carrier?
- what firmware version?
- does this problem only happen with one router or with all of them?
- is Power saving turned off?
- in Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced is "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" set to "Always"?
