Trust me, this thread is more welcome than your typical 'iPhone converts get some!'/'My battery died after using my phone a a lot!' thread.
War related crap aside, it's good for us to mourn that horrendous event in any capacity. Be it on AC or otherwise.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
Thousands of people STILL died. It's a matter of respect. They weren't soldiers, sailors, Marines, Airmen, or anything else.
They were CIVILIANS.

I support this thread. Being an American citizen, I don't feel this thread to be inappropriate in any forum involving other Americans.
It's not politics. It's a day for remembrance.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
Exactly as stated previously, the people that died were civilians.
I am not a pacifist and am glad that events took place to capture Osama Bin Laden. He masterminded/payrolled these attacks, he deserved to be brought to justice for the crimes he committed. You can say that he was a foreign national and doesn't deserve to be tried by our legal system, but he was tried and executed in the minds of all the families or loved ones of all that died on that day.
The people killed didn't deserve to be included in an attack of this nature, but as we see in incidents across the globe, on what appears to be a daily basis, no one does. To include innocents in any attack is a sign of cowardice, as they are unarmed and a non threat. A way to rack up huge body counts like it is some kind of video game, but all it does is make citizens like myself angry to the point that we want to push the button that launches the missile to erase the offender.
Every country has had their ways of dealing with criminals over time, it is just in this day and age that we have to go to foreign countries to apprehend the criminals.
I for one am not ashamed to say that i love my country, as everyone should, and i back the decisions made to capture or kill Bin Laden for crimes committed against these United States of America.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
So remembering the many innocent lives lost and acknowledging the brave souls who sacrificed their lives trying to save others is somehow being insensitive to the feelings of those who, in their warped sense of logic or justice, may feel that these people "deserved" it? With all due respect, as someone who lost many friends on 9/11 and saw the impact on their families, there is never a "wrong place" to remember our loss. We as Americans, and I would hope as human beings, carry them in our hearts always.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
i really dont wana argue but can we also rememember the thousands of innocent men, women and children killed in afghanistan, pakistan, etc in the messy search for bin laden to keep things fair. Glasgow arport (about a mile from me) was also attacked but i still dont agree with indescriminate drone strikes etc.
of course i feel empathy for the familys of those who died that day.. ill never forget that day... but im not blind to other attrocities carried out by the UN.
sorry if i offended anyone x x

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
i said "how deserved" meaning a lot of cultures would see it as being deserved. i dont agree with any attacks on civilians but a lot of people in the US (and the UK) seem blind to the fact that theyve funded terrorsm and committed war crimes. i dont wana disrepect anyone but that brutal attack on the US should have opened peoples eyes to foreign affairs instead of creating a nation of warmongers.
im scottish of irish descent and support the irish unionist cause but a lot of the IRA's funding came from the US and helped them bomb innocents in london and the north of ireland. now the US+UK want to help the rebels in Syria. who are we to decide whats right and wrong. Through our arm-chair terrorism we've caused death all over the planet. ill say it again.. i DONT support the attacks on 9/11 but im not surprised that it happened. the CIA were happy to arm and train the..... i cant spell the name of them lol... in afghanistan fighting russia and its these fighters who went on to become al quaida. i just want people to think about cause and effect. we were lied to that Iraq had WMD.
look i dont wana upset anyone so ill stay out of this thread and if any of the Mods think im trolling then im sorry, i just want the general public to learn something from 9/11 so those people didnt die in vain.
PEACE x

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
I agree with learning from our past, all aspects of it. But you keep refering to events before and after 9/11.
The OP stated we should remember the victims of that day, not what led to it or occurred after.
Plus I find your arguement(and anyone that thinks this way) of we trained them so we deserve it ignorant.
I am not trying to start a flame war, I whole heartedly agree that we should keep our nose out of other countries business. That by no means excuses anyone from attacking civilians.
Period.
Other cultures perception that we deserve it makes about as much sense as me saying that because the British murdered our citizens during the Revolutionary War that it is ok to kill British citizens because they deserve it due to Britians' foreign policy ( which is obviously completely insane).
Sorry about the rant, I am just tired of hearing about reasons why we deserved to have our loved ones killed.
***Plus, if we want to discuss the poor victims in Iraq, we went to war with them based upon intel fron your govt. Just saying.....it is not just us mean oppressive Americans.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
FunkyLogic you acquit yourself well so you need no one to defend you. But your point was understood by some and taken as an affront by others. As an American freakin' pissed that day, the question I kept asking myself was what would cause someone to commit such an attrocity, murdering thousands of innocent civilians? The answer I discovered was quite simple: Cause and effect cannot be ignored. I've been there but most Americans have never traveled to so-called 3rd world countries and more have no idea the suffering we the good ole US of A have inflicted on untold millions of innocent civilians worldwide. Not saying 9/11 was the appropriate response by any means but I am saying a lot of people pay dearly and daily for the lifestyle we so unabashedly enjoy in the West.

Re: Just realized today is 9/11
@funkylogic, you are fine. I wasn't trying to pile on, I was just venting. It was by no means directed at just you.
@cqpearson, cmon man. How do you live your life that causes 3rd world countries to suffer? I think you are being a little over the top there. Our govt does things that cause others to suffer, yes, but you and I can only do so much. Your cause and effect argument goes both ways too. If they don't target civilians, we wouldn't be in their countries. Please don't take my argument that I disagree with you bc I don't. I agree with what you are saying, I am just saying that any argument can be made any way you want.
I think the whole world would be better off if everyone else just minded their own business, but unfortunately that will never happen. People are going to hate Americans for no reason and big business is going to push conflict bc war is a big money maker.
