Since there is only one setting for Notification Tone, is there a way to have a unique tones for incoming and outgoing SMS ?

Re: Notifications specific to the occasion or event

Is it possible to have different tones for send and receive SMS ? It would also be nice to have repeat intervals for notifications that have not been acknowledged.

I haven't come across an application that allows you to set a 'nag' notification if you don't respond to the original one after a certain amount of time. Have you done a search of the Google Play Store?
As far as a notification tone for an outgoing SMS - I guess I'm missing the point of that. Once you press 'send' it's sent - what do you need a tone for?

Hi GSDer, I've been with my GS3 for a couple months now and having come from an iPhone I find the lack of persistent On Screen notifications to be a step backwards. The iP4 also has a configurable "nag" which I needed. App store may have something..still researching.

Sending and receiving are two unique events and should have unique identifiers. When I send SMS I want a short "Send OK" sound, but for receiving SMS I want a longer tone that I have a chance of hearing if the device is in a pocket. Here's a real world example of why the tone fails to convey the correct information as-is: I am in and out of my carriers zones and have roaming turned off. Let's say I send a text and throw the phone down. 5 minutes pass and I hear a notification tone. Is it an SMS from a friend, or is it telling me "Send OK" as I drive into a network covered area and the SMS is finally sent? A couple options to set the tones for these things fix this. Lastly it is tiring hearing the same tone over and over when having a long chat via SMS.

When I heard the GS3 had a notification LED I thought it'd be useful but there aren't enough stock options without an app to replace on screen notifications.

I am not an Apple fan boy but they did get a few things right.

I always liked the fact you could have seperate tones for different contacts. Ie a tone for a text and a tone for a call but for the same person.
Hope that makes sense? I thimk the only way is to find a 3rd part launcher to do all these things
