Alternative to Pandora?
Anyone got an alternative to Pandora? I was using it with a Pioneer car stereo (not the AppRadio) with my old iPhone 4. Now that I've converted to the Android S3, it doesn't "play nice" with units optimized for Apple products. I lost all capability to plug the unit directly into the Pioneer's USB port for a hardwired connection, but luckily Bluetooth streaming still works. When listening to my locally saved songs, the album track and artist data streams, but the album art snapshot does not. Based on some web research, I think that's a limitation of the current Bluetooth streaming protocols . . . . . not a function of either the phone or the radio. Hopefully this can be added to both devices in the future as both are flash upgradeable.
Pandora, however, seems to have a programming problem. The audio streaming works fine, but the track metadata does not at all. Nothing. Has anyone come across an alternative software where the metadata streaming is confirmed to work? The main functionality I want is the ability to list multiple artists in a big list, and then the software custom build a station for me.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Re: Alternative to Pandora?
Have you tried Slacker, Spotify, and Songza? I don't have an appradio so I can't check for you.

Spotify is just as good if not better, because it syncs with the Spotify software on your computer
Songza is also pretty good too

I'd tell ya....but then I'd have to kill ya!!

I like listening to internet radio and my preferred app for it is Xiialive! It uses shoutcast much better than Winamps app does. Although, I haven't tested Winamps app as of late. - 12-04-2012, 12:39 PM #6

Re: Alternative to Pandora?
Tried Spotify on my drive back from lunch. Exact same behavior as Pandora which is starting to make me think it has more to do with the phone than the individual software. Sound plays fine through the bluetooth connection, but the album/artist data shown on the Pioneer screen remains on the last song I happened to be playing from local storage.
Speaking of, how do you turn OFF the sound app? I found out last night it had continued playing songs in my library almost to the point of a dead battery. I can manually pause the music, but the app remains active. ATK doesn't even kill it. - 12-04-2012, 01:30 PM #11

; I still have an old free version– that's the same as their current 'Pro' version– so it let's me record any radio show, or any set of music for up to 8 or 10 hours (can't recall which).
