Well you can download kies like it says and it will do a diagnostic on your USB connections and set the drivers up....or more simply go to device manager plug in your phone you should see under universal serial bus connections look for the samsung one , right click , select unistall. Then simply disconnect your phone and reconnect. you should be fine after that. if that fails just go to samsungs website and download kies

Well, uninstalling the driver didn't work. I wonder if I can get the driver from the Kies software without actually installing it...

Just install it. I had to do it for my wives infuse. After the drivers installed I just uninstalled kies. You are going to spend more time thinking about it than getting it done

Interesting, it seems to work just fine when I unmount and remove my SD card. I'm going to copy everything off of it, format it, then see if it works again.

I had the exact same issue when my SD card fried. As soon as I took out the SD card it started working fine. The card however not so fine, I did get an RMA for the card and had it replaced.

I didn't want to format just yet. I ran a chkdsk /x /f on the card and installed the Kies bloatware...
After re-mounting the card and connecting my phone to the computer:


Mannnn, I didn't unplug it. I swear.
