Such a Goober when it comes to Android

Looong time BB user that just recently switched to a GS3. Sad to say but I am a complete noob when it pertains to Android. I really like the phone and would really like to customize it a bit, but am having a hard time moving away from the stock Touchwiz. So far I have downloaded Swiftkey3 which I love, Light Manager which is okay, Nova launcher and Beautiful Widgets which I am completely clueless about. For some reason Nova Launcher scares me since I don't know much about the Android OS. It looks cool, but am fearful of screwing something up and bricking my phone. Played around with beautiful widgets but nothing looked that good when I finished. I'm not sure what I am looking for here other than some encouragement that things will come easier as I get more familiar with Android. I was a daily visitor to Crackberry and am now a daily visitor to AC. Thanks for any suggestions of any ways to ease into the wonderful world of Android.

I'm sure you will love your phone once you learn the ropes and don't worry about messing your phone up with custom keyboards/widgets/launchers and the like.. After all, I that's one of the main reasons why people like android, for its customization! If you have questions about a certain app or setting or how to do something, chances are you will probably find your answer in the forums and if not, then feel free to ask :) we all were new to android and android Central at some point so don't sweat the small stuff :cool:

Pretty much impossible to brick your phone with a launcher. Bricking more comes into play when you start rooting and putting on different ROMs. The launchers just offer things like transition effects, more folder, dock and drawer options, color schemes and stuff like that. If you don't like one, try another, and you can always go back and forth (I even have an icon to switch from Apex to Nova and back again).

Customizing the look will take some playing with, but i highly suggest learning your phone 'as-is' before making major changes....just to learn Android and where things are at.

when you're ready though, there are so many ways and options. You should check out the 'Post Your Home Screen' thread at XDA that has thousands of examples that people have done. Look for one (even if you don't like it) that tells exactly what they used and that also has a link to their blog that walk you through exactly how to do that particular setup (wallpapers, launcher, screen settings, colors, widgets, etc.). Take a couple of days and copy three or four of them and by the end you'll have a good idea of what's possible and how to create your own or copy anything you see that you like. Warning though...it's addicting. I change my phone weekly, but each new setup now only takes me a couple of hours. I get bored easily.

Enjoy the nova features for example usin a gesture to show/hide status bar or dock n make it all pretty n unique.
Zero risk of bricking with an app without root.
To get rainbow metrostation icons, long press when u select one ;)

Take it from an ex-crackberry user, it will take a few weeks to get you mind wrapped around how to do things in Android but it's worth the switch. The apps and ease of use of a lot of things are a lot more user friendly when you stop being a blackberry user! A few things I miss still about my blackberry but otherwise I way prefer Android and this phone is awesome. I use Nova myself as a launcher mainly because the screen is so massive that I can't see why limit it to 4 x 5 icons. and unlike iSheep android is meant to be customized so you can make your device your own and not what the execs at Apple want your phone to be.

That's my problem, I have been a bb user so long that it is ingrained. I so far like the phone, but I find myself still thinking of things in bb terms, trying to do things that I am used to on a bb. Give me a few weeks and hopefully I will catch on. Thanks for the suggestions and support.
