How Can i update my S3 to 4.1.2 ?

hey guys, im coming from a z10, so im all new to this andriod, but so far love it i bought a preowned s3 from telus, and i dumped my koodo sim in it. im not sure if i unlocked it or not, but i had to add a apn setting for the data to work. its currently runs 4.1.1 and it says there is no updates. but if i remember correctly i think my friends s3 from koodo runs 4.1.2. is there a way i can get it to 4.1.2 ? please help im mainly concerned as the sudden death says to update to 4.1.2 to prevent it?

or is there something even newer then that that is stable?

if it's not popping up in the settings about screen try lies...I know for sure kies will work for the tmo version I dont know what koodos is

A Google shows me 4.1.2 isn't out in Canada yet. Can anyone help me with maybe updating it? Be greatly appreciated

so now i should be ready to flash a rom as long as its for the i747 model right? any reccommendations ? or should i just find a stock 4.1.2 off another carrier?
