Samsung Galaxy S3 and NFC

I am new to NFC, My old phone did not have it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile, and I want to get the NFC payment part of Google Wallet working. I have the phone in an Otter Box Defender case. I tried to make a NFC Payment last night and it did not work. I had the NFC turned on in the phone settings.

is the google wallet app on the device and configured? (I am assuming wallet works on t-mobile devices of course)

App is on device credit card is on app. Bank account is verified.

Do I have to transfer money to the app or will it take money from the bank account?

Ah. I believe you need to transfer to your wallet account but hopefully someone else can chime in to confirm.
