Probably not. Most deletions in android are permanent. However, there is nothing wrong with trying. There are recovery PC programs (sorry, can't remember names) that might help.
Best of luck if you choose to try, but I would assume all are lost, that way IF the program can recover them, great.

If they were on both, then one copy should still be on your device.

I would use GSDers idea. Hopefully, you can recover some of the photos.

Also, a suggestion: If you take a lot of photos, I would get in the habit of once a week, connect your phone to your PC and transfer your pictures. That way, at worst, if this ever happens again, you are only out, at most several days worth of pictures. Another option is, to sign up for something like Dropbox or other cloud service to auto upload all photos.

Cloud Drive: - automatically backup your pictures/videos to the cloud; 5GB free

Drive Photo Uploader: - use with your Google Drive account to automatically upload your pictures

Dropsync: - use with your Dropbox account to automatically upload your pictures

I am not sure myself. If it does go back on the phone I would pull them as soon as possible.

It is always best to recover the files to a different source/drive to keep from over writing other files you are trying to recover. You can then copy them back to the External SD.
