Why isn't my S3 seeing any new wifi spots when scanning but connecting to saved wifi spots?

S3 not seeing any new wifi spots when scanning, but connecting to saved wifi spots

My Galaxy S3 recently stopped being able to see new wifi hotspots when scanning, however it still sees saved wifi connections I have(home, work, etc) and can connect to them(luckily). I've been on kitkat 4.4.2 for many months and it was fine, this just started happening over the course of the last couple of weeks.

Any ideas on how I can get it to start seeing new wifi spots when it scans?

Are you scrolling to the bottom of the wifi scan page? That's where new ones show up.

yes of course I've tried scrolling down, but again my S3 only now shows my saved connections, no new ones that are clearly in range, which I can see scanning with another device( my tablet which is on kit kat too) for example.
