How do I get recovery mode working on Kies (not working)?

recovery mode in kies (not working)

I tried to root my phone (samsung galaxy s3 mini) but i failed and as a consequence it displays the message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again". I tried using Kies but my phone would, when I plugged it in my computer, would turn off and turn on without stoping. Can someone help me please?
