Default "Exchange Services" killing my battery

For a while now, my phone has been running out of battery more quickly than it used to. I obviously went to Settings and checked the Battery page, to find that "Exchange Services" is using up a hell of a lot of battery. It uses around 30%, and even more if I leave my phone idle without using it (because if I use it constantly, the screen uses up a bit more battery usually). I'm using the standard Email client that comes with the phone (linking one Hotmail account), and I'm assuming it's that app which is causing the decrease in battery life. I've searched on this before and found plenty of other threads made by people with the same problem as me, but I didn't really understand any of the jargon in the answers because I am entirely new to Android and smartphones in general.

I'm not one to use my S4 too often, so I don't keep track of the battery life on it, which is why I try and save as much battery as possible so that it's readily available when I need it (using a black wallpaper, switching to Flight Mode at night, using battery-saving apps, keeping the screen brightness on low, etc). So as you can imagine, something like this is annoying for me. I'd love some user-friendly, foolproof help!

Maybe adjusting the Mail "fetch" settings to manual v.s. every 15min. (or whatever schedule its currently set for)...
    Just a suggestion?

I turned off NFL soon as I got my phone. I've had the email client set to manual sync for the last two days and exchange services is still using 30 percent of the battery. If I kill the process, it just starts again. There's no way to turn it off without deleting the corporate account.

There was a battety app by "Tesla" (cost $4) that outlined battery use by app that seemed interesting. ..

I have seen the same problem, and getting betterBatteryStats did not shed any additional light on the topic. So I have gone ahead and 'Greenified' my Exchange Services. Will now continue to monitor and see what that results in.

Having the same issues...I did noticed I had a couple of other things turned on my phone that were killing my battery.
if you not aware, turn the "auto sync" off, and for the email you can adjusted the setting to sync only when connected to wi-fi.

There is another setting so you can change how often e-mail and other functions can sync (which I think is causing the big drain on the battery) but I can't seem to find it now. I could have inadvertently hidden the setting by accident, but what I just suggested did start to save some of my battery. I know it's not the full answer you were looking for, but it might be enough to find the solution. Good luck.
