Messaging replacement?

I feel like I'm being forced to give my ex a back rub every time I fire up hangouts-- can anyone suggest a replacement that mimics the old app?

I tried Messaging (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ps/details?id=com.softcoil.mms&token=_kOEq3wT) and SMS Messaging (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...re/apps/details?id=fr.slvn.mms&token=Kryg_Il-), but neither actually send a generic text message.

Messaging Classic (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tails?id=com.thinkyeah.message&token=S0nnQUMR) sends text messages, but I can't send MMS messages.

Anyone have suggestions for a lean-and-mean messaging replacement? Looking at Textra right now- seems to work, but also carries a couple more bells and whistles than I probably need.

Being able to get my text messages read to me by my 2012 Prius would be a bonus.

This is the replacement to the old app made by Google. I have no idea what those other apps are but give the one below a try. If not try GoSMS but I like Google's.
