Samsung S4 Mini - Taking terrible pictures

Any picture taken by this phone seems to be brutally grainy. I set it to 8mp, played with some settings and still very very grainy. Has anyone else noticed this issue? or is it specific to my phone? If i zoom in ( I know its digital not optical zoom ) the images become so blurred you cannot even make out what they are. My 3 year old Desire HD took much better pictures then this, hopefully its not just a poor camera, as reviews have said otherwise.

Make sure your screen's brightness is not on auto, I realised that made a difference with the photos I took.

Hi my wife's s4 mini was also taking crap pictures until I rooted it and installed a custom rom( (cyanogen) and now it is spot on.... great little snapper !!.
