A buddy of mine bricked his S4 while attempting to root via root de la vega. Thinking he was on MI1, he was on MJ7. Which caused the softbrick. Getting into download mode isn't a problem but since I can't downgrade back to MI1... or any other pre-released software. On top of not being able to boot the device passed DL mode or kies recovery prompt. I need the tar.md5 file of MJ7. I did a Google search and came up empty.

Should he take the device back to Verizon and tell them that the device won't properly boot after attempting the "software update??

The Knox counter hasn't been tripped. There's no sign off tampering whatsoever.

I have this exact same issue with my SCH-I545. I might just try going to Verizon and saying this happened after "updating the firmware" if I can't find a fix for this in the next couple days.
