Default Presidential alerts? No option to turn off.

In the massaging app under emergency message settings tap emergency alerts it gives you the option to receive amber alerts for missing children, weather alerts but theirs also a '' presidential alerts'' that can't be turned off. Why do I get to choose if I want to receive notifications on missing kids but if Obama wants to break into my phone he can and I can't do anything. It's like it was put there just so we can see and have no way of opting out. If u have seen this feature, does it bother you? Or give you a sense of security in ur pocket? Lol

It doesn't bother me. However, I'd be very interested to know what events would qualify for such an alert.

The OP said it was a "massaging" so the alerts should make you feel better while getting any bad news.

Rebooting my phone resets all the unchecked alerts. I don't remember to go uncheck them until I'm suddenly getting Amber alerts. GRRRR! Anyone else seeing that?

What about this to disable it on a non-rooted phone:

    1. Force stop / disable the messaging application
    2. Download and install a free third party messaging app (yes you have a new number)
    3. Use it.

    Anyone try that??

It has nothing to do with Obama and everything to do with the FCC and having available way to alert everyone with a cell phone of a national, state or local emergency, be it weather, FEMA, evacuation, terrorist attack or chemical spill.

It is no different than and just a more modern version if the emergency alert system that comes across your radio or television. There ia no opting out.

a Presidential Emergency Alert Notification would only be broadcast if there was an emergency event affecting the whole nation. (Nuclear Attack, EMP, Asteroid, unrest, mass-invasion) etc, a state or local emergency would be broadcast through the FCC or NOAA or by authorization from the Governor, Department of Homeland Security, etc
