I came over from an Iphone 5 and was wondering what to do once rooted, for example I had a jailbroken iphone and had unlimited pandora skips and no ads. Can that be done on an android?

No, rooting will not help you pirate apps. It will allow you to run certain apps for things like backing up your apps.

It's also part of what you need to be able to flash custom roms, which changes the way your phone will operate in some cases. In others, your phone will operate the same, but maybe not have all of the carrier apps. There's no equivalent to this on iPhone.
