Samsung Galaxy S4: What Apps Should I Get?

I won the S4, unfortunately it's the crappy american quad-core version, because Samsung treats Canada as part of america, so we are left out when it came to the octa-core version -- Samsung did the same thing last year with the S3, the rest of the world got the quad-core version, while Canada got the crappy american dual-core version -- so my question is this:

What apps should I get for the S4...?

That is so not helpful!

I'm sorry, but the question is so subjective...you could ask that question to 100 people here and get 100 different answers...it really depends on what you want to be able to do!

However...if you want a good idea for stuff specific for S4, you could look at some of the apps in the Play Store that specifically take advantage of the IR Blaster. Most of the good remote apps seem to be paid, and while I don't mind shelling out a few bucks for a decent app, I'm still not sure which way I want to go with this one...but I really would like to get a nice universal remote working on my S4! I'm trying "Smart Remote" now...

Well, those would be extremely useless, I don't own a TV!

Really depends on your needs but ill give it go with what works for me;
Security - Avast
Battery usage - Snapdragon battery guru
Inter-platform transfers/sync - OneNote, Evernote, Skydrive (I use Windows PC at work and Macs at home)
System enhancements - HD widgets, Zedge, PicSpeed wallpapers
Gaming - Angry Birds, Bunny Shooter, Pitfall, etc ( I'm easy to entertain)
Entertainment - Netflix, Kindle
Video playback - MX Player (plays pretty much anything)
Of course the Android Central app
And the usual compliment of news and sports apps
Other than that the S4 pretty much already has it covered for me...

Security - currently testing TrustGo.
Battery usage - Snapdragon battery guru; will check it out.
Inter-platform transfers/sync - currently have Dropbox, but not really using it at all.
System enhancements - HD widgets, Zedge, PicSpeed wallpapers; will check those out.
Gaming - I'm not easily entertained.
Video playback - I've got a desktop & laptop for that.
"Of course the Android Central app"; what does it look like?
And the usual compliment of news and sports apps; I hate sports, so nothing like that will be touching my S4. What news apps do you use?

I'm in the U.S. so I get the national news apps ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN, FOX. Flipboard comes on the S4 and can be tailored to your interest. It works well for me and I use it regularly.

Um, Canada is a part of North America.

You just do NOT get it, Samsung is treating Canada as america the country, not the continent, so we get stuck with the stupid american S4 (quad-core) and not the international version (octa-core)!

Stupid America? You sound like a kid so I won't reach through this phone and... well, we won't go there. But, you have been pretty much negative this whole post. I'll tell you what. Find your own apps. I'm not going to help you.

Well, you've just proved you can't read, because it clearly says 'stupid american S4 (quad-core)', nowhere I am calling america stupid, so don't put words in my mouth, I really hate people who do that! Canada is NOT america, so we should've gotten the international version (octa-core)!

Also, to address your assertion, I am not a kid, I'll be 40 in just over 3 years!

America means every single country on this side of the world. Whether it's Mexico, USA, Canada or the Caribbean it's all North America. Then you have South America.

[Placeholder for Michael's response to this post]:p

Way to bash and/or berate most responders to your wide open question that is the equivalent to asking "Now that I have this crappy top of the line blu ray player what DVDs should I get?" without giving the audience any clue as to where your interests lie (comedies, drama, action, horror?). People are less inclined to answer such a subjective and broad question in the first place. Abrasive, negative responses like those above reduce your chances even further. Bottom line, try to be more specific AND more graciously receptive to the feedback you are getting.

BTW - My top apps are:

Lookout Security
Evernote
Waze (Navigation)
Various online shopping apps (Amazon, Newegg, REI)
My bank's app
News, weather, sports by USA Today, Weatherbug, and Sports News Center apps for quick headlines and scores
Android Central Forums (of course)
Pocket (capture app for offline reading and archiving)
Google Play Music Unlimited

I have a lot of apps--most of which I don't use! ;)

Key apps besides built-in Google stuff like Maps and Gmail:

--You need two eReaders. I chose Kindle, both to read Kindle and some other stuff. It's nice to have another for versatility and sometimes I have two things in progress. I pick Cool Reader.

--I like a customized music player. It is good for local files. PowerAmp.

--Security is essential. I use Lookout.

--I need to see my Docs and sync them. Docs to Go

--Evernote

--I use Firefox, not the stock

--My fave word game is Drop Words
--File management! the stock is simple, but I do like Astro. I used to prefer Andro Explorer, but on Jelly Bean it is less intuitive. Astro, however, doesn't let you perform searches AND multiple operations like "delete" from the results of the search. So I keep all 3.

--Some online storage apps if you use Google drive or competitors

---Tuned in Radio

--Mr. Number, nice help for blocking the increasingly obnoxious spammers who ignore the do not call registry list

--Skype, Google Voice
--RSS type of things like NY Times, Time, Cnn, Zinio

--I like Trip Advisor's city guides. If you travel a lot, it is a free guidebook in your pocket

--Amtrak's app is great
--Pocket is a great app for clipping from the web and reading off line
--Most printers with wi-fi have apps to allow printing from the phone
-History Eraser Pro--not because you watch porn, but because it erases caches of all apps at once, which used to be possible and no longer seems to be on Jelly Bean. It is good for space saving in a crunch.

"Watch apps"--if you have Comcast, they have a couple. Netflix. MX Player pro for videos, Crackle. IMDB for advice. ;)
