Batch mode on new gmail?

I used batch move, delete all the time in Gmail. Does anyone know how to do it with new version?

Long press a message and then you can select multiples messages and archive / delete.

That's not batch mode. That's having to select messages one by one AND THEN deleting or archiving. This sucks. There is no way to select all and then archive. So I'm stuck with all the archived (on my desktop) email in my gmail app. How stupid can google get. Fix your dang app G.

I really hate and hate that long press mode instead of check from previous version. It sometime open the mail when you long press it.
