I had the galaxy s4 from Verizon for 2 weeks but replaced it with a brand new one today due to the volume rocker lagging like crazy everytime I used it. Anyway, they used the same sim card on my new gs4 but 4g isn't working. On my first phone, I never had 3g and got 4g no matter what, even if it was only 1 or 2 bars. Now whenever I turn on my phone, I'll have 4g for 10 seconds then it switches back to 3g. I trid taking out the sim card for 30 seconds but it still does the same thing. How can I fix it?

    Check the Mobile Data settings

Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Network mode

See if LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) is selected.

The network mode was on Global and I changed it to CDMA/LTE/EVDO. However, it's still getting 3g most of the time. Could it just be verizon itself? It's strange though because I've always had 4g since the day I had this phone.

Hm it seems to be staying at 4g now. Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks for the help

My 4G on my Sprint S4 does not work. I have three other lines on my account, all S3s and S2s and they all receive a full 4 bar 4G signal in most areas where I live but mine stays at 3G. I took it in to a retail store and they went through all possible settings to no avail. I guess I have a bad 4G radio.

I had the same issue and everyone told me because 4G wasn't officially rolled out in my area, I wouldn't receive it. I exchanged my phone for another one and BOOM, 4G magically started working again. If you can, just exchange your device.

How do I even turn on 4G. I don't see an option for it in settings. My phone always picks HSPA+

It depends on your carrier - check with them.
