so this is a common issue on s4 (kidding)
it occured for me yesterday in this way : " I dropped my s4 yesterday in water for 3 sec, after dropping I switched off and tried to clean it with a cotton and dry towel. tried to switch on and as I made myself sure it works , I turned it off & removed the battery , since I needed to go somewhere I did not put in rice at the time . at home , I dried it with a cool air flow of a hair drier ( I insist the air flow was cool not hot) and then tried to switch it on , everything worked fine . the only problem was that it does not understands the usb cable , it does not charge with it , so I put it in the rise . and it it in the rise for 24hours now "
does anybody knows what is going on with it ?

No! It's a common issue with people using their phone close to liquids!:thumbup:

Once again, if people actually read the entire thread people would find more answers. Go to post #46, you'll find it helpful.

I never tried that rescuetec so I can't say for sure.
But I have tried rice and it works!

    You used the hair dryer?
I hope it wasn't on hot air, that won't help.

Hello, about 48 hours ago i dropped my phone(Samsung s4) into the toilet. I immediatly pulled it out and took it apart and removed everything removable. I was going to the cinema so I only put it on my radiator, the heat was on 3/5, and left it on there for 2hours (the phone was on the bumper so it was not in direct contact with the radiator). When I got home from the cinema i tried to turn it on (***** move), it turned on but the screen was black, so i put it in rice and it has been in there since. I the phone out of the rice about 10 minutes ago to check it, it turned on but the screen would not work. I checked to see if it would charge and it did, but it was only plugged in for a few seconds(the phone was mabye turned on for 1 minute absolute max). I put it into rice again now. Is my phone phucked? or is there still a chance?

I dropped my phone in the sink. It barely got wet at the bottom. I took the back off immediately. No water got under or really on the batter just in the speaker. I plugged it in to see if it still charges. It did. I took the battery out and unscrewed the price at the bottom where the speaker is. And left it out. Took a shower. Got out. Out It All Back Together. The speaker works like it did but NOW it won't charge. What do I do

Rice is wayyy over rated, I do a lot of phone repairs and I've seen phones that have been left In rice for upwards of a week and when I pull it apart there is still pools (not condensation or beads but actual pools) of water. This all depends on the time spent submerged. If it was very brief you should pull the battery and sim/sd cards and leave it in a warm spot like on a window seal with a lot of sunlight or near your stove (be careful of splattering grease while cooking) after a day or two re assemble and test it, if this doesn't work and you don't have insurance, first step is a new battery, this should be enough to salvage it. If it was submerged long enough to get into your motherboard you need to completely pull it apart ASAP (tutorials can be found on ifixit.com) but this will void any and all warranties, clean all of your components with a soft bristled toothbrush and 90% isopropyl alcohol to evaporate the water and avoid corrosion. After pulling it apart leave it in a warm place just like before.

Water damage is the most common problem I run into and this is my go-to solution, it usually works unless the phone has been sitting in rice for so long that the water stagnated over a component for so long that the corrosion had already ruined something, at that point I get on amazon and order new components and swap them out.
So in short here are the basic steps to take:
    1) pull battery, don't worry about turning it off, just yank it while it's running (time is of the essence)
    2) evaluate how much water made it in
-my rule of thumb is if it was deeper than a foot and/or retrieval wasn't immediate assume the worst and pull it apart to clean
    3) get on ifixit and find a full tear down tutorial and get to work

    Hi Stargate! You're great help!

My mom dropped her phone into the sea but she was able to pick it up in a few seconds. I wasn't there at the time and she didn't realize she has to wash it down with fresh water first. (Which, by the way, is not crazy at all for me because i know salt would corrode(?) the thing and not just water.) Anyway, she dried it out for a few days but it still won't turn on.

Do you think I could still wash it down with fresh water and/or alcohol?

    TIA!

It does not submerge in water for up to 2 minutes...Mine was accidentally knocked in bathtub water by my 2 year old and completely submerged for about 20 seconds. I took out battery immediately; not SD and sim card, and dried it off, and tried to turn it back on (do not do this, it fried the battery). It started turning on and off, and then reset itself and proceeded to download overnight, and seemed to work in the morning, but would not hold a charge. At that point, I put it in rice for the day, and after I took it out (put it in rice for 3 days and remember to take out the SD and Sim Card), it does not charge at all now. Going to try a new battery. In the future, I think I'll bite the bullet and get insurance. Good luck!

I don't think insurance will cover phones dropped in water. They check the moisture indicators.

That's what insurance is for. Squaretrade and Carrier provided insurance will cover this.

Moisture indicators turned red will void your factory warranty only.

I dropped my Samsung s4 in the toilet 2 days ago. Tried to turn it on straight away then charged it before taking the battery out to dry the phone.placed it into dry rice as soon as I could 2 hours after. I have tried 2 days now drying it and turning it on. Nothing, have it lost my chance of turning my phone on again,or is there something else I could try?

I would say it's a gonner. If your phone gets wet. First thing you do is shut it off, remove the battery, and put it in rice. Unfortunately you did the 2 worst things when a phone gets wet.

Time is of the essence . If u can't rice it and power off then the chance I'd low. But I do have a good friend who's gone thru same but followed these steps ASAP and the phone was not functional. .
