Default S4 Battery drain in idle mode

i know there is alot of posts about this but i cannot seem to find a solution to my drain at all
at 100% charge if i leave it untouched for 9-10H that means im asleep and then wake up i still dont use it for another 2H so in total its idle for 10H
i then pick it up to notice that its on 53% charge this is ridiculous.
all the features are off including GPS and power saving is on
the screen brightness is on OFF so that means its on the lowest
(i use samsung s case with it )

i disabled some apps such as Gmail, i leave wifi on during night

someone please help, i do not understand why its eating battery when its idle. i have tried many apps but nothing has worked

I lose about 3% every 19mins of non use or just to turn it on to see the time this is maddness

lastly i do not have the new update apparently its rolled out to fix some issues such as memory battery and stuff (move to sd card update)
this update is unavailable to me now for some odd reason because my phone is unbranded (uk edition)

I found recently, regarding draining overnight, that the two items taking up the battery were Samsung LINK, a program I don't use, and GPS.

I uninstalled LINk and turned GPS off before going to bed. That pretty much solved the drain.

Why would you leave wi-fi on overnight? Go into airplane mode, and eliminate possible causes of drain. Re-enable when you wake up. With Samsung's icon toolbar, it is pull down, one touch.

That doesn't sound too bad actually if you have everything on--things like wi-fi, google services, bluetooth, GPS.

But you can easily see what is using your battery in the BATTERY section of the SETTINGS, as the user posting previously alluded to.

As for whether you should uninstall LINK depends on whether you use it or not. I didn't use it, so easy choice. Since I don't use it, no point in even wasting 1% on it, let alone what was happening.

I've had this persistent overnight drain problem--and really, that's been solved by turning off GPS, but more importantly uninstalling Samsung LINK.
When I go to bed, I also previously had been in airplane mode, but that did not solve all the problems.

It still declines in idle mode to some extent, which is more understandable. Went to bed last night and it was at 87%. This morning it was 79%. THAT I can live with. But going from 87% to 15% is another story. The fault there was Samsung link and / or GPS. I'm going to continue to experiment with GPS.

Yeah nothing is wrong with that drain. If the phone is on the battery is going to go down .

You can also install something like GSam Battery Monitor if you want a more detailed display of what's using your battery. I agree that finding what's using your battery is the first step.

On a side note, while leaving your phone unplugged at night is a good way to diagnose issues like this, why not just charge it while you sleep? It's easier on the battery and you have a full charge for when you want to use your phone next.

Good point. I've gotten out of the habit of doing that, and have started to do it more, but really, I tend not to run the phone down so it's not that big a deal for me. I top off frequently. I rarely go to bed with the phone run down.

It's not much of an issue charging the next morning (now that I've figured out what was causing those huge drains that would take it down to 15%)---charging a device at 65% in the morning is no biggie. The Samsung wall charger is really fast. The second half of the reason is that periodically when I have gone to bed, I change my mind and want to check my phone for something. My charger's in the living room. So, I'd have to go get up and get the phone. I'm lazy.

3% every 19mins is a lot of drain!!

There must be some "wakelock" issue from some Third-party apps..
Google "android wakelock" for more details!

There are some free apps to solve that issue, they help you to find the offender app.
    Ex: Wakelock detector, Gsam, BBS..

I have found that whatever it is happens erratically. At one point, it was a rogue app (Samsung Link, which I just uninstalled since I don't use it.)

But then it would happen when I changed batteries. Why? Dunno. I found rebooting the phone at that point (even when I had done so to change the battery just recently) fixed it and it went away. Shrug. Now I lose about 3-5% overnight. I'm not sure why it goes away and sometimes comes back, but temporarily stopping things like Facebook can help too.

I have the S4 mini and has been struggling with battery drain during the night since I got the phone.
Everything is turned off...wifi, gps, sync etc. My phone is put on airplane mode. And during an average night of about 8-9hours, it drains about 30% minimum!
I have tried so many things, I don't know what to do anymore. I thought it might be an app running in the background so I checked my running apps. Samsung Link and ChatOn was always running, even though I have never even used those apps. So I disabled them. That didn't change a thing though.
My battery usage always looks more or less the same except for my screen which is sometimes 60+% which I also don't understand, because I have a BLACK background, have set it to the lowest light and tone and the screen timeout is 30sec.
So, this morning I checked my battery usage:
    Screen 48%
    Device idle 16%
    Android system 13%
    Android OS 10%
    Cell standby 8%
    Gmail 3%
    Whatsapp 3%
The only other app I've seen on the battery usage list is Google Services which was about 3% but other than that, the above things are the only ones that ever shows.
One thing I'm not sure about is...does a running app use battery power even though the running app doesn't show under the battery usage?
I know a few people with the same phone and their battery only drains about 2-3% during the night!
Any help would be highly appreciated, because I honestly don't know what to do anymore...

I am having same problem now with my s4. It doesn't make any sense. I did not make any changes or download anything, and all of the sudden I also lose about 6.25% battery per hour when my phone is in idle. Nothing running. Tried everything I could think of. No change. I think its a Galaxy S4 conspiracy. See, the new s5 came out so...
