I just got a new s4, I love the phone it is nothing short of awesome! However I was just fiddling with the camera and the flash is off and will not let me turn it on... the icon to turn it on is there, but it is grey and unresponsive! Any idea why this would be? Any suggestions on what I can do to turn it on?
I appreciate the help guys =D

The mode your in probably does not allow flash (Change to auto or a mode that'll let you use flash)
    or
Your battery is low (15% and lower) which prevents flash from being used.

Here's a pro tip: If recording video in the dark first go to your camera settings and change your flash mode from auto or off to ON. When you start recording in video recorder mode the flash comes on and stays on giving you a spot light.

I was having the same issue and I had already checked everything the other answers here suggested, without success - my battery was full, and the camera was already set to AUTO, but the flash option was still disabled. So I clicked the settings button (bottom left of the phone) while on the camera, accessed the full settings, and chose to RESET the camera settings. Then the flash button was active again. Hope it helps.

if you are in front facing camera mode, the flash will not enable and look as you described, greyed out. front facing camera mode does not support flash.

Ok, no offence to the person who said it is not available on your front facing camera is wrong. Why would it work for selfie mode and NOT forward right? I mean who designed it. How are you to take a picture of your kids at night? I had the SAME issue. If I was in Auto or SIMPLE it didn't work. It was grayed out. But if I went to MANUAL it would. I stumbled across the fact that the HDR button was set to ON. If you change it to AUTO or OFF it pops back up.... Once again, fixed an issue completely out of dumb luck!

Normally, turn on the camera, tap the gear on the right side of the screen, tap the second icon (thunderbolt)
