    Hey all,

For some reason the screen of my S4 has quit turning off when on the phone. On the surface no big deal, but with it staying on my ear starts pressing crap causing problems, etc. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks

Uncheck it, pull the battery out. Wait a minute, place battery back and turn the phone on.
Go back to the "Turn off screen during calls" feature and turn it on.

    See if that helps.

Another possibility is that you have the reverse issue to that of people whose screens will not come back after a call; the solution was that the sensor was blocked by dust, and could be fixed by cleaning the ear speaker area with compressed air.

Oh yea, I remember that thread!

It doesn't hurt to try the air thing. Some people even used a vacuum! 👦

Would the mophie case make a difference? It covers the rear speaker.

I've done all the above. It goes off but won't stay off. And when it comes back on is when my ear jacks with it. So what I've been doing is, upon the call connecting, I simply turn the screen off with the power button. It's not ideal, but it's a work around.

Do you have insurance or have tried to get in touch with Samsung about it?

I just solved this on my S4. To determine if the sensor is bad, restart your phone in safe mode by holding the "volume down" button during startup. Try making a call and see if your sensor works. If it does, your problem is likely caused by a recently installed app. I just deleted a few useless recently installed apps, rebooted my phone, and now my sensor is working like new.

I had the same problem and I found out the proximity sensor was dirty.
Do not use compressed air on the speaker that may damage the speaker and it won't help.
If you tried cleaning the front screen and or removed your screen protector and it still does not work try cleaning the sensor.

I removed the the sensor located just to the right of the camera and to the left of the face camera and cleaned the lens and it now works. Remove the sd card and sim card remove the screws on the back plate. Now carefully use your fingernail to pry off the silver side rim and plastic back plate as one unit. Slightly raise the main camera lens, detach the electrical connections to the face camera and prox sensor. With a small screwdriver remove the metal spring plate that holds the sensor in place and carefully lift out the sensor. It is originally installed with double stick tape so you may have to gently pry it out. Clean with a Q tip blow out any dust and reinstall.
