problem with storage

Hi all,
I'm running a galaxy so with android 4.3 and have been having some problems.
Basically the phone keeps telling me im running out of storage.
I go to the screen that breaks down your storage and it says I have A total space of 9.25Gb. That's fine but the available space is listed as 304Mb and the actual usage data only amounts to 1.85Gb so where has all my storage gone??

Did you install a lot of apps or added music , videos? If not then do hard reset and or reinstall firmware.

I have some apps but they only take up just over 1Gb. No music. How do I do a hard reset etc?

Phone Off (wait untill vibrates). Then hold together Vol Up+Home button+Power. Keep holding until you see on top left corner small blue letters Rebooting to recovery.
Then use Vol Up or Down to highlight Wipe Data and press Power to confirm.
