Why are some Samsung stock widgets so damn huge?

Samsung widgets are too big. The weather widget is only available in 2x4 form, when in practice 1x4 or even 1x2 would more than suffice. The Assistive Light widget should be 1x1, not 1x2, or at least resizeable. Ugh!

The assistive light widget is 1x1 for me. Anyways you can download a launcher and that will allow you to resize any widget you want.

Thanks for chiming in. What phone do you use? Mine is a Samsung S4 MINI, being the MINI version I'd expect screen real estate to be a bit more precious...
I have only used Android for about 3 weeks, so everything is new to me. Will a third-party launcher allow me to use and resize Samsung's widgets?
Other third-party light-torch widgets I have tried, sporting a more sensible 1x1 footprint, introduce quite a delay between tapping the widget and the light coming on, not to mention the fact that some of these apps have ads and like to call home. By contrast, the Samsung Assistive Light widget is instant and by far the fastest I have tried thus far.
