Contacts do not clear

When I search for a contact, it is then found, I make a call to them - job done.

But when I go back into contacts to call someone else, the 1st contact is still there and the text I entered to find them.
I have to then delete the text, go back to the main contacts menu and start over. this is really frustrating, I had a BB and always after completing the same, it went to the same start point - which is where you want to be.

Any answers/suggestions?
