Where Is My Free Space?

Confusing thing happening. Trying to clear up free space on my phone. It's a 16 GB phone, with around 9GB of space available when you turn on the first time (due to touchwiz). I get that. I connect the S4 to my PC, it shows a 9GB hard drive in windows (as expected) with in my case 4GB of free space. There are no photos or videos on my phone, so I want to figure out what's consuming the 5GB. If I highlight all the phone folders and go to properties, it says there are 1.5 GB of files. So, 1.5 GB of files + 4 GB of free space = 5.5 GB. Where's the other 3.5 GB? Why don't I have 7.5 GB of free space? How do I recover that space?
