Contacts created on my phone don't appear in my gmail contacts

Hi everyone,

When I create a new contact on my phone this new contact does not automatically appear in my gmail contacts. Is there a way to have this happen?

If I edit my gmail contacts these changes do automatically appear on my phone contacts. I'd like the same to happen the other way.

make sure you are saving all new contacts to Gmail and NOT to the LOCAL phone storage. you may need to EXPORT these contacts from your LOCAL storage to Gmail.

I checked and my phone was set to sync contacts with my google account.
How make sure my phone is saving contacts to gmail?

Where do I change the default contact type? I'm on a S4.
