PIN locked galaxy s4 won't unlock

I recently updated my phone and then found that after incorrectly putting in my pattern 5 times it forced me to enter my PIN. I do not know my PIN and have tried almost everything I can think of. I have logged into my android device manager via the web and have reset my lock, but the new passwords i setup don't work. How can I salvage this without having to do a factor reset?
