Apparently they "upgraded" Google maps for this phone over the weekend because the interface has totally changed and the voice is talking way WAY too fast now.

Does anybody know how I can slow her down? I can't find a setting for this, only for volume.:'(

Go to Settings>Language & Input>Text-to-speech Output, and make sure Speech Rate is set to Normal.

I can't find that, in either the phone settings or settings inside google maps. Am I looking in the wrong places?

NM - I found that setting, it is under My Devices. But Google maps doesn't use it. I have it set to slow. I tried changing it to very slow and Google Maps is still going a mile a minute.

BTW, this new version is a terrible battery-drainer. I had it on in the house (Google Maps that is) and it ran down to 71% from 100% in something around 8 minutes. Crazy.

No joy. Just one more reason to hate data phones - this propensity they have for "upgrading" software without notification, let alone asking. And in just the time it took to test the voice, it ran the battery down from 71% to 58%. There is something REALLY wrong with this so-called update.
