Facebook's Messenger app not displaying received GIFs

If anyone sends a GIF to my I9505/S4 inside Messenger, it only shows as an image.

Tapping on it shows a black screen.

Tried with Samsung's Android/TouchWiz 5.0.1 and Kushan Rom v8.0 Full (based on TouchWiz 5.0.1), same issue.

Any ideas?

I'm actually using an i535 s4 and I'm using Facebook messengers beta apks through playstore and nothing noteworthy has changed
Id have to test a gif to save but anything else works.. gifs are pretty damm rare. I'm using rooted stock 4.22 nc5
I have safestrap load, but don't have a separate rom. My idea is to send screen shots or be specific of errors or how you know it doesn't save because it sounds too broad to answer. worst case id look at the phone or sd for it where you have it store them
