Just upgraded my S4 to latest version. Now the phone self switches off from time to time.

AC Question

The battery is new as the previous battery had died. The battery still will not last more than 10 hours.
As I write this the phone auto shut down again alone.
To reboot I have to remove and install the battery before it will re-boot.
It has got so bad I will have to go to another manufacturer of mobile phones if it cannot be rectified.
The battery seems to be getting very hot. The battery has 53% charge still.
Is there a solution to this problem?

Welcome to Android Central! An overheating battery can be a sign that the battery is failing--try a new or different battery. A corrupt file on the SD card or a corrupt card could also cause behavior like this, so if a different battery doesn't help, try unmounting the card (in Settings>Storage) and removing it, then seeing if the overheating persists.

Another general troubleshooting step would be wiping the cache partition: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

The battery is brand new.
There is no SD card involved.
The restart can only be done when I remove the battery and re-insert.

the over heating does seem to be the new battery.
I have wiped the cach thanks

Thanks

New batteries can be defective as well. Can you borrow someone else's S4 battery and test it out?
