The last two Samsung flagships have released with the latest version of Android. The S4 was the first phone to ship with 4.2.2 out of the box and the Note 3 was the first to do so with 4.3
The Note 3 is getting KK overseas as we speak so I'm confident the S5 will come with 4.4 out of the box

you mean the Note 3 came with 4.3, not 4.4

But yeah, I am guessing that it will be 4.4.X with the new TW.

I would expect that the device would ship with 4.4.

Now, 4.4 or 4.4.x? I'm going to guess 4.4 for sure, and hope to see the latest when it's released. Only time will tell.

Good point on the incremental versions. Although it wouldn't be that difficult to add the small update, if Samsung doesn't have it already.

I'm pretty sure that the Note 3 got 4.4.2 so I'd expect at least that for when the S5 releases

The US vesion of the Note 3 does not have 4.4.2. As for the GS5, it will likely have 4.4. or 4.4.2 given Samsung's ability to access the code for the GPE GS4.

The international versions with KK have 4.4.2
I assume we'll see the same when the US versions get the KK update

I forget sometimes the US is so far behind the rest of the world that we won't see 4.4.2 on a GN3 for months.

I highly doubt that it'll take more than a month to see it. That's about how long it took for the 4.3 update on the S4

International vs US is a big difference. Please tell me when was the last time Verizon or AT&T actually launched an OS update in a timely fashion, the answer is never. Time is 90 days post Android update (HTC) and realistic in the carrier world is 6-12 months with the emphasis more on the 9+ month end IF we get it at all. Verizon has the Galaxy Nexus and it still lags way behind.

The Moto X is probably the only exception, on both carriers, that received a timely update to 4.4 following the announcement of KitKat:
Verizon Moto X: Motorola makes it official: Verizon's Moto X first to get Android 4.4 KitKat | Android Central
AT&T Moto X: AT&T's Moto X officially getting its Android 4.4 KitKat update! | Android Central

Of course, Google likely had a big push behind this update being pushed so quickly. I do agree with your post though. US branded devices lag behind the International versions with OS updates (excluding most the Nexus models).

I guess that is the benefit of keeping your OS as close to stock as possible and a desire to push out an update as soon as possible. Moto achieved both.
