Galaxy S5 offers 10.7 GB of usable storage space on 16GB model | SamMobile

The Galaxy S4 was given a lot of flak for using up a lot of the total internal storage for system files, leaving only around 9GB for user data on the 16GB variant. The folks over at Android Central then revealed that available storage space was even lower on the Galaxy S5, indicating that the company has failed to trim down the bloat of its software. However, that?s not the case, as Telekome-presse found out: the Galaxy S5 on display at MWC was simply using up an extra 2.33GB for the demo content related to Samsung?s Unpacked event, demo content that will not be present in the retail version of the device.

I think the jury is out until they are released and we see first hand of what is available out of the box.

Still not enough for me, I'll be going for the 32gb this time. I have an S4 so I have time to wait for the 32gb version. When the S4 came out, I had a Galaxy Nexus that was driving me crazy so I couldn't wait.

Yeah, usually around 12 or 11. This is close to that now, which is definitely an improvement over the S4.

My Galaxy victory, which has a 4gb rom, has about 1gb free. So 3gb for the os. But it doesn't have many of the features that the s5 has

In general, Android takes up around 3 or 4 GB. TouchWiz seems to take up another 2GB or so

The Galaxy victory had touchwiz, albeit a somewhat stripped down version. No motion control

Yeah, specifically the TW in the flagship devices, is extremely resource heavy. The lower end and mid range models don't have all of the extra features

Will the 32GB S5 and the 16GB come out at the same time? I'm going to be new to Android so I'm not sure how theses releases usually go.

They should, but some carriers only sell one in-stores, and only sell the higher storage version online

Still...16GB should not even be made. 32 should be the lowest then 64 middle and 128 high.

Well you can manufacture the phones and take all the costs that it entails to do that at a high volume. At the end of the day 16GB is the one size that is good enough for most people, that's the biggest seller on the iPhone because its the cheapest, just like with all other phones that have a 16GB and a 32GB option.

Memory is cheap. Make the 32GB the same price as 16 GB and the 32 GB will sell just as well at that price point.

The phone manufacturers will prefer to make more money by charging more for 16 to 32
