Samsung: Here’s why you should buy the Galaxy S5 over HTC’s new One smartphone | SamMobile

    These are Samsungs own words:
Here are Samsung’s arguments, which have been translated from Chinese:

    • The HTC M8 is not dust and waterproof, while the SGS5 is IP67 certified.
    • Galaxy S5′s camera is better, with a higher amount of megapixel, quicker focus, and overall, “more professional.”
    • The HTC One M8 is not as user-friendly as the S5. Samsung’s flagship boasts childproof features, a removable battery and the new Ultra Power Saving Mode.
    • The HTC One M8 is not as secure as the S5. The M8 lacks a fingerprint scanner while the S5 has one, on top of KNOX.

Camera I'd have to see comparisons to make a determination and the removable battery I am a fan of..

Other than that... The other points to me aren't valid. I freeze knox :P.

    • The S5 has Samsung software on it

    Sounds about right.

Those are four really important points for that market that Samsung is aiming for. It makes sense to advertise them

The first two reasons are my two reasons.

    The other two? Whatever.

I truly don't understand the the TW hate. Ya it's not stock but it's not horrific. Who cares if the settings and notification pane are themed? I honestly miss the quick toggles in the notification pane when I use stock devices. The only thing that annoys me about touchwiz is the inclusion of their own phone and messages apps. Seriously why waste time and money developing your own phone and messenging apps when they are provided for you? Other than that I don't mind it. When I had my note 3 I actually liked the s-pen goodies.

You can use the S-pen goodness without Touchwiz. I run Nova and can still use it .

Conversely, why you should buy a Galaxy S5 over a One M8

    1. The One M8 has HTC Sense on it
    2. The Galaxy S5 does not have HTC Sense on it.

It goes both ways. For most people, it's just a matter of preference.

It's not TouchWiz, per se. My Sensation has Sense, and I don't like that any better. In fact: I kind of liked TouchWiz.

It's Samsung's history of broken code, security problems and back doors that have put Samsung out-of-the-running, for my familiy, pretty much permanently.

The Last Straw was the (likely) last Samsung "smart" device purchase we'll ever make: A device with streaming capability that required us to agree that Samsung could and would make a record of every thing we viewed on the device, keep the information as long as they wanted, and share it with whomever they wanted. That thing went back right away.

In short: Samsung has repeatedly displayed a fine disregard for sofware product quality and for their customers' security and privacy. That is why I regard Samsung software on a device as being a big negative.

Too bad . They often make nice hardware.

To each their own and it's not mine to say what's right and wrong. Having said that, I went and reviewed (briefly) Samsung's T&Cs here (https://account.samsung.com/membersh...amLocale=en_GB) and the closest thing I found was this:

    8. User Content and User Content License
8.1. By uploading, transmitting, creating, posting, displaying or otherwise providing any information, materials, documents, media files or other content on or through the Services ("User Content") You permit Samsung, Samsung's Subsidiaries and other Users of the Services to use the User Content to the extent that this is required for the provision of the Services, and in this respect grant Samsung, Samsung's Subsidiaries and other Users of the Services an irrevocable, unlimited, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to copy, reproduce, adapt, modify, edit, distribute, translate, digitize, publish, publicly perform and publicly display the User Content ("User Content License"), such User Content License in any event to be limited, however, to the purposes of the Services.
8.2. The User Content License shall include a right for Samsung and Samsung's Subsidiaries to (a) perform all technical steps necessary to process and prepare the User Content for use in the Services, including any modification and/or adaption required to provide the Services to Users and/or to transmit or distribute the User Content over public networks and in media and (b) make available and sublicense the User Content to third parties for the use of the User Content in connection with the provision of the respective services by these third parties.
8.3. Samsung does not claim ownership of the User Content and You will retain any copyright and any other rights to any User Content provided by You on or through the Services.

Then I went here: Mobile Nations - Terms And Conditions and found this:

You may submit comments and provide other content so long as the content is not obscene, illegal, threatening, or defamatory and so long as the content does not invade the privacy or infringe the intellectual property of a third party. Further, such content may not contain software viruses, mass mailings, chain letters, or any form of "spam." You may not use a false e-mail address, impersonate any person or entity, or otherwise mislead as to the origin of the information.

By submitting information, you grant Mobile Nations a nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable right to reproduce, use, modify, publish, adapt, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content throughout the world in any media. By submitting information you also represent and warrant that that the content is accurate; you own or have permission to use the content that you submit; and that use of the content will not cause injury to any person or entity.

Mobile Nations reserves the right to edit or delete any comments, at any time, as deemed necessary due to member conduct without warning.

The latter is from the website that you are currently on. Granted, you may be more concerned about people in South Korea paying attention to what you watch, but I think the point is that all of your data is out there and if you think HTC is less intrusive (or any other company), I think you may be pulling your own leg.

I keep myself private by leading a wholly uninteresting life that no one cares about but YMMV!

In fact, I do. And, while that may be true, it's not true of the one cloud service I use, which has a refreshingly simple, clear, straight-forward and user-friendly privacy policy.

The device in question was a Blu-ray player, and the general TCU was, IIRC, that one. It was when I went to use the streaming features I ran into an additional agreement. That agreement was exceedingly egregious, IMO. It essentially said "We'll log everything you watch or to which you listen, including discs. We'll store that information as long as we want, and do what we want with it, including sharing it with whomever we desire."

It was the most astonishing anti-privacy policy I've ever read.

Like I said: That was merely the last nail.

Btw: My original response was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. People are going to buy what they feel suits their needs best, and some guy ranting about the maker's transgressions is going to change few, if any minds.

Hehehe, M8 must have sold well.

Before the sale started, HTC tried to provoke Samsung, but not even a slightest ripple was seen from Samsung, as not to give free advertisement to htc I guess. And now, Samsung is responding. Hahaha....

    BTW,
    1) a function that is not functioning well (finger print scanner) isn't a useful one. I'd choose iPhone instead if I think that's important;
    2) and user friendly, ummm it probably is, for someone already a Galaxy user.
    3) high pixel count doesn't automatically make a camera “more professional.” As a matter of fact, a “more professional” camera would require a lot more hands-on operation from the user. In that case M8 camera can out do the GS5's in many conditions. Samsung should stick to advertising on the much higher MP (and quick focus that's by far still an issue for most high MP count phone camera in moderate lighting conditions) that is more useful in many situations for layman users;
    4) yes, the water and dust resistant features are what M8 is lack of.

That's all TW really is.. Is a Launcher. Hence why when you install another one and have to pick a default you see TW in there.

Just some of the features still come through in another Launcher.

I'll give them the first one and probably the second, although since we have yet to see comparison shots between the two it's a little premature to call. The third is just switching one devil for another as far as I'm concerned. As for the fourth... does Samsung advocate the iPhone 5S over the GS4, since it's obviously "more secure"?
