Why would the camera app be different from carrier to carrier? I was just looking for this option and couldn't find it either. Verizon S5.

Could be a carrier request

Google "enforced stream silencer". It's should be the first result. Not sure if it works in the s5,but worked on my note 3 and other Samsung phones.

Thank You dpham. Just tried your trick and it worked. Shutter sound is so annoying.
I would suggest anyone else who is/was annoyed like me try the trick above.

Yeah. I didn't mention that I have a Sprint S5. It has ALL the camera settings shown in the two screen shots (below? above?) EXCEPT the silent shutter option. I wonder why Sprint would leave that out? I wonder if there is a way to get it put it back in there? In the meantime, thank you to all who replied and especially to y'all who offered work-arounds. I usually prefer a 'stealth' camera and with your help now I can approximate one. THANKS!!.

I don't understand, dpham00, what is Google "enforced stream silencer"? What is its purpose? Is it something I can turn off and on? Is it an app or something I can only do if rooted?

No, you do not need root. Just go to www.google.com and search for that phrase

I have Sprint and I do not have it either. I did scroll down
Sprint here and it's also not there even if I scroll down
I'm on Sprint and my phone doesn't have that option either.
Yep no option here either with sprint

On the Sprint model at least, if the phone is on vibrate it doesn't make the shutter noise. But there's no option in settings for shutter noise, which would be nice to have if someone doesn't want his phone in vibrate but still wants his shutter sound silent.

Exactly, it's silent when phone is on vibrate or silent mode

I'm on Sprint and ditto the above. Just put the phone on vibrate or mute and the shutter sound goes away.

Just open the app and check the box. There is only one box.

Its a law in most states that u cannot turn it off

Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

yes. It's not a law. if you're phone's on mute it won't make noise so clearly not a law.

Not sure if it is a law here in any of the states in the US but it is internationally and this is why some of the carriers opt to have it removed.

Yep. That's what i did.
Tried re-starting my phone, playing with the volume settings, still makes the shutter sound in mute/vibrate modes.

Seems like it works for some people but not others. If it doesn't work then there is a way to do it with root

I remember asking blackberry rim a couple of years ago about their shutter sound which could not be turned off. They told me it was to avoid people being caught on camera unaware of it. Like you go in a store, you try on some pants and next door pervert slips a phone under the door...maybe that s why some carriers won't allow the sound to be turned off. My version has no setting to turn the shutter off, but if I swith the phone to vibrate mode or silent mode, the shutter is muted as well.

This is on the UK EE/T-Mobile/Orange versions too. I also had it on the S3, one way around it was to create a rule in Tasker that if Camera opened > Mute All & then it would release once the app was closed/suspended in the background.
