Question New Samsung Galaxy s5 unable to send or receive text messages.

I've just switched from my iPhone 4s to a Samsung Galaxy s5 (brand new). The problem I'm having is that no one is receiving my text messages (of all kinds, MMS, text, picture) and I'm unable to receive any myself.

I've unregistered my number (this is a new SIM, but the same phone number I used on my iPhone) and deleted my registered iPhone 4s from my Apple account- I read that the problems may be linked to my number still being on my Apple account/iMessages.

    Still no luck.

I am able to make calls from my Samsung, but unable to receive or send text messages.
    Help!

    Welcome to the forums.
How long have you had your number disabled/removed from Apple?

    Help!

Had the same problem, here is what I had to do:

    Before changing:
    1. Turn off imessage on the iphone
    2. logout of the itunes account on the iphone
    3. logout of "find my iphone" on the iphone.

    Still did not work so:
    1. Had to call 1-800-myapple

got the song and dance about paying $19.95 for a one time tech support, said I had one, finally got a real person and they checked, sure enough still registered on the Apple servers, it took her about 5 minutes to undo it, sent me a text with a code I had to read back to her, she took care of it. 48 hours later all is well.

I liked my iphone, but I do not like the way Apple owns you, can't do anything without their permission.

    Hope this helps

I just called and spoke to them.

They let me know that it was still registered, and have unregistered it. The Apple Care tech waved the $19.95.

He said to alert any iPhone users I text frequently, to delete my previous text messages sent (when I was using iMessage from my iPhone) as that will remove my number as an iMessage number in the future.

    All is well!

    Thanks for the suggestions!

For years, Apple has said very little about persistent rumors that its iPhone text messaging system in some way discriminates against Android users, either by delivering messages to them late or not delivering them at all.

Now an Apple customer support employee has admitted to Lifehacker's Adam Pash that, in fact, "a lot" of users have this problem: If you switch from an iPhone to an Android, iMessage won't deliver texts from iPhone users to your new Android phone.

There is no fix in sight, Pash says he was told. (At Business Insider, I've had a version of this problem firsthand: My iPhone colleagues get my texts immediately; those on Android seem to get them later, up to a few minutes behind.)

Be sure to check it in 3-4 days, I thought I got mine sorted by having family and friends delete our text conversation and everything seemed fine until I tried to send one of them a text with a picture attached. Also if you have an iPad or iTouch make sure that iMessage is turned off on those units as well. After the latest issue I called Apple to have them remove my number from their servers and will have to test it when I get a chance to see if all is well. If someone else happens to be reading this, when you call Apple Tech Support at 1-800-myapple and it starts going through the menu options just start pressing the zero key to get a rep on the phone otherwise it wants to prompt you to pay the $19.95 out of warranty tech support call. The one sure fire way I've heard to fix this problem is to have your carrier issue you a new phone number but that is a serious pain considering how many accounts you may have associated with your current number (credit cards, shopping accounts and so on).... probably never purchase an Apple product again just because this has been such a pain.

Here's a new link I found on another site: https://idmsa.apple.com/IDMSWebAuth/...e.com/homePage Log in with your itunes id and then click the Edit Products, then click the X to the right of the device. I had phoned Apple over a week ago and she said it would only take 72 hours to remove it but my iPhone 5 was still listed, the may be 2 totally different things not sure. Anyways something else to try to ensure the texting issues get fixed.

Well, I have NEVER had an iPhone and have always used an Android. With my new Samsung GalaxyS5, I have great difficulty sending text messages to anyone with an iPhone. Sending a photo is impossible. And I do not have iTunes on my phone, so I think Apple is to blame here. I never had an issue until I bought the Samsung.

By God, 20 days into an international move and I think I've finally got the answer! I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 running on KitKat 4.4.2 and a Free Mobile (third party) SIM from France. The stock messaging app doesn't let you set the Service Center Code (MMSC) and if you can receive but not send texts, it's not reading it from the the SIM card. To fix: 1. Google your Service Center Number based on location and provider (ex. +33695000695). 2. Download Textra, an SMS/MMS app that replaces the stock app so you can manually set the MMSC. 3) Open Textra> Settings> MMS Settings> Check the manual APN setting> Enter your MMSC. And as the French say, voila! You can send texts!

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone else comes across this issue when moving away from an iPhone, Apple has a "Self serve" portal to disable your old iMessage: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
